Abigail Barragry
Abigail’s experience in the arts is wide and varied. At the age of 11 she began a ten year attachment with the Crucible Theatre, Sheffield, where she continued to perform whilst studying for a degree in Psychology. She sealed her formal Arts training at East-15 Acting School London with an MA in Acting, followed by work experience at The BBC, and specific courses in the dynamics of voice and presenting for camera at The Actors Centre, London.
She has worked professionally for many years and in several countries, including live and recorded film, radio, theatre (musical and dramatic), commercials, and presenting. Throughout 2007 she was working in Kuala Lumpur, having gone out to perform in a large-scale musical, and then staying on due to additional demand in film, commercial, and live events presenting.
In 2008 she travelled to Vancouver, Canada, where she undertook voice-over training with vocal coach Tony Alcantar, 'Comedia dell'Arte' with Cirque de Soleil's Gina Bastoni, and Authentic movement with acclaimed dance therapist Tannis Hugill.
As well as performing, she is heavily involved in using the arts for both education and therapeutic benefits. Combining techniques of actors with psychological theories, she works as a free-lance performance coach for actors and non-actors of all ages, including vocal confidence, dance and movement therapy, and most notably theatre in education. In Kuala Lumpur, her classes evolved into a working company, the aim to use drama to enhance personal, social, and educational development. ‘Drama Kidz’ is currently based in Kuala Lumpur, and her specialized courses (including teacher training) operate nationwide on request.
